Educational Technology Philosophy.
Technology is reshaping education around the world. The quote above by John Dewey puts technology on my point of view. I agree with John Dewey; If we teach as we thought yesterday, we rob our children of tomorrow. To me, this quote is saying what I think when it comes to education. Our world is changing so fast and my goal as a future educator to prepared students for the future. We can not teach the same as we were though in the past because we will not be helping our students to be successful. Students in the new era need to be creative problem solvers, Innovative thinkers and be able to adapt to change in our fast-growing world. It is crucial that we as educator incorporate technology in a variety ways in our classroom that will help students with real-world issues. We as teachers need to give students the tools and educate them on how to use them to achieve their highest potential, And we will be teaching different from tomorrow.
I believe technology can be incorporate in any topic or subject in any school. The use of technology generates supreme confidence on students learning by providing students with different engaging activities that in many cases are not available otherwise. As a future educator, I must take significant advantage of what technology offers and able to use it correctly so, my students can have the best educational experience. I want my students to appreciate and use properly all the information that is available to us when using technology.
There are many ways that technology can be used in the classroom. I plan to integrate technology in many ways throughout my teaching career. I like to give an example of two ways that technology is going to be used in my classroom. The first way will be using FLIPGRID. FLIPGRID is an app that I will be using with my students as a way to post Weekly Math Problem. This App can also be used as a review or about the current topic. I can Mix it up by doing this with another class at your school, district, or across the country! Since I’ll be teaching middle-grade math, so this could be an excellent way for students from other classes to interact with each other. The second way will be using the App called Kahoot, and I will be using this app to review and as a form of formative assessment on a topic or lesson. These two ways will help my students to be prepared for real-life issues. Students can share life experiences that happened outside the classroom. For example, by merely sharing how they figured out if they had enough money to spend. Have them talk about what measurements they used when cooking a recipe. What angles did they notice at the playground? Etc.
I am a firm believer in Digital Citizenship. Inappropriate behavior on the use of the internet will be prohibited. My students will have a deep understanding of the importance of Digital Citizenship in my classroom. At the beginning of the year in every period students will be introduced to Digital Citizenship before using technology for education purpose only in my classroom will be permitted. My primary goal is that my students understand the high benefit technology brings to my class and they can be successful if uses appropriately, I also want them to learn about the negative impact that can cause it when is not handle correctly.
Digital Citizenship that will be discussed in every class I have at the beginning of the year, I will start off by introducing the TPACK and the SAMR Model. The SAMR model is an acronym that focuses on four groups. These groups are; Substitution, Augmentation, Modification, and Redefinition. Any technology tool can be placed into one of these four categories depending on how the task has been transforming. For example, a computer can be a substitute for a student notebook, textbook, and many more options. Let's take a look at google docs it allows students to work together and receive real-time feedback from peers or teacher, google docs can be placed as Redefined. My primary focus is to use all of this four groups throughout the entire year. In contrast, TPACK stands for Technology, Pedagogy, and Content Knowledge. I plan to incorporate this three categories as well; I expect to find the balance to make my lesson useful.
As a future educator, my target is to establish a positive and safe environment for all my students. I also plan to have excellent communication with my students and parents. Technology will allow me to achieve this plan. There are many Apps available that will help me. An example of one significant App that can be used to the task of communication with student and parents is an App called Remind, it straightforward to use and gets the job done beneficially.
One person that I admired Maria Montessori she believes Students can accomplish anything just by the guidance not showing what to look for or what they need to find. Maria quote tells me that I have the responsibility to guide my students to the fair and safe use of technology, but I also have the responsibility to let them explore the use technology for educational purposes in their innovative way. I believe that every student can make a difference in this world. Technology is changing our world so rapidly, and the next generation will become more, and more technology oriented. Our duty as educators to keep up with Technology. In my classroom, students will be able to develop high technical skills that will become the key to be successful and make a difference.
